Bay of Islands is home a maritime park with 144 islands. Secluded bays along with the townships of Paihia and Russell, makes this a place to visit with a lot of activities and history to discover. Waitangi is the location of were the 'Treaty of Waitangi' was signed on 6 February 1840, which saw the birthplace of New Zealand as a multi-cultural nation.
Hokianga harbour is home to a few attractions including the huge sand dunes that you can board down at speed and hit the water below. Township of 'Opononi' was once famous with a friendly dolphin named 'Opo' being a star attraction.
Nearby you will find Waipoua Forest, which is home to the famous Kauri tree named 'Tane Mahuta', this is the largest living Kauri tree in New Zealand and possibly the world.
