Saturday morning we all set off by car to Thames, Coromandel Peninsula. We all tramped through the Kauaeranga Valley to get to our stay (Pinnacles Hut).
After a few hours tramp to the hut, we arranged our sleeping requirements. Had a rest to gain our energy or should we say waste more energy.
We all took the task of climbing the Pinnacles which was 759m high. Took a lot of achievement as we had to climb vertically in places.
But... Once we got up there, we had to take in the fantastic views.
That evening the Hut warden showed us and the other people in the hut a slide show about Kauri logging in the area in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
We went to sleep soon after.
Thump in the middle of the night came from Steven as he fell out of bed. Woke all of us up!!
The next morning we were going to go up the pinnacles to see the sun rise, but we didn't because of the cloud was low.
However we went for a small 2 hour hike down river and coming back by a track. Walking by the water came easy for some but tough for others who slipped in for a refreshing dip in the cool running water. We could see what the damage was done by the kauri loggers in the early 1900's.
Sadly that Sunday afternoon we had to tramp back out to the cars (via the famous Billy Goat Track).
