Auckland City Walk
Waitakere Ranges / Cascade Kauri
24 April 2005
Auckland City Walk is a 1.5km circuit which takes about 1 hour for the trip. This is located in Cascades Kauri Park within the Waitakere Ranges. I was joined by my dad, mum and one of my cousins for an afternoon walk.
|Day 1||Cascades Kauri Park - Cascades Kauri Park
Auckland City Walk circuit via Cascade Waterfall
Firstly you will need to travel to Falls Road, Te Henga. The best way to get here is head to Scenic Drive from the Swanson end. The track entrance is at the lower end of the Cascades picnic area, next to the golf course.
You will cross a bridge onto an easy well graded gravel track, which follows Waitakere Stream. This will take you past large Kauri, Kahikatea, Rimu, Matai and Totara trees.
You can also take a side track to the Cascade Falls, however I recommend to go there after a rainfall, as the fall's were dry when we visited. There are also a lot of other tracks that run off the Auckland City Walk, for example the Cascade Track.
You will also hear the native birds in the trees. This was an easy loop track which took about an hour for the short walk, a good way to introduce into tramping in the bush.
